Rethink Graphite: A Botanical Drawing Workshop

Whether you've never picked up a pencil with any real intention or you've been drawing for years and are finally ready to understand value instead of guessing at it — this is the class! This workshop will change your approach to graphite, helping it claim its rightful place as a beautiful medium unto itself.

Truly understanding value, and how to achieve a full range through continuous layering, is the secret sauce that has driven my work for years. If you're a beginner — fantastic, you'll learn SO much! If you're an experienced artist — terrific, you'll UNLEARN SO much!! I promise this workshop will change your approach to graphite, helping it claim its rightful place as a beautiful medium unto itself.

Looking at my geranium, a work in progress, you can see how layering and textural mark making allow for gorgeous results.

Please bring a sketchbook and pencils — 2H, H, HB, 2B, 4B — plus an eraser.

Lisa is a professional illustrator and art educator specializing in children’s book illustration, digital art and botanical studies.  Currently, I am illustrating a young reader novel while pursuing a Botanical Illustration Certificate through the NC Botanical Garden and SBA in London, blending fine art detail with imaginative storytelling.

In addition to illustration work, Lisa teaches in-person art classes in Concord and the greater Charlotte area including workshops at Central Piedmont Community College, the Cain Center for the Arts, UNC Charlotte McMillan Greenhouse and the Cabarrus Art Guild. Lisa also offers live Zoom classes and recorded on-line courses, helping students around the world explore drawing, Procreate and illustration techniques at their own pace,

Whether through my books, botanical studies or art classes, my goal is the same; inspire creativity and help others see the beauty in both storytelling and the natural world.
