Mermaid Garden – Fabric Book
Explore this underwater “Mermaid Garden” with Susan as you learn many embellishing techniques and hand embroidery techniques. There will be appliqué with hand embroidery finishes and 3-D stitches to create textures for each page of your fabric book. Stamping on fabric for a design which will be stitched and highlighted using Crayons! The First class will focus on the Mermaid Tail cover page. And the second class will focus on the underwater scene with fish and seaweed, beading and more!

Class Cost: $58 CAG members, $62 non-members for each class
Students can sign up for one or both classes.
Materials Cost: The pattern for the class is $16. If you wish to purchase the kit with supplies and the pattern it will be available at $30 for the first class and $20 for the second class if you are taking both classes. Cost of both is payable in the class.

Remember always dreaming of the underwater world a beautiful Mermaid lives in as a child…. all the beautiful glistening shells and beautiful sea foliage…..Explore this underwater “Mermaid Garden” with Susan as you learn many embellishing techniques and hand embroidery techniques. There will be appliqué with hand embroidery finishes and 3-D stitches to create textures for each page of your fabric book. Stamping on fabric for a design which will be stitched and highlighted using Crayons! If you don’t want to create a little fabric book you can frame each page to be hung on a wall or bunting over a bed. The First class will focus on the Mermaid Tail cover page. And the second class will focus on the underwater scene with fish and seaweed, beading and more!

Supply List
• “Mermaid Garden” Pattern ($16. www.susanedmonsondesigns.com
• Background Fabrics (I used hand dyed Linen or other open weave fabric)
• Texture Fabrics (such as, hand dyed velvets, Cheesecloth, ribbons, lace, etc.) polyester fabrics and ribbons will not work, this needs to be soft playable fibers.
• Buttons & Beads, such as glass fish, #11 or larger glass beads, real sea shells (with holes), Mother of Pearl Buttons, etc.
• Fusible Batting (Quilter’s Dream Fusion 80/20)
• Pearl Cotton Threads sizes #12, #8, #5, #3 and of these will work (I use hand dyed threads) Available to purchase in class or on Susan’s Website.
• Crayola Crayons “ONLY” (Pearl Crayons are great, but no need for Fabric Crayons)
• Rubber or Wood Block Stamps & fabric stamp pad (brown is best)
• Scissors (fabric and small embroidery)
• Sue Spargo’s Creative Stitch Book (available in class or from Susan’s Website)
• Drizzle Pad
• Needles (Milliner #1, Chenille #24, #22, #18)
• Pins and Flower Head Pin

Fiber arts are Susan’s passion. Susan majored in art at Queens University in Charlotte, NC. She is an accomplished quilt designer, has hosted art retreats, traveled to shops all over the country to teach, and is a Bernina Ambassador. Susan loves sharing this passion for quilting, stitching and creating with everyone.
