Convincing Depth and Perspective in Watercolor Landscapes
This is your chance to create a customized wool painting. Send Lynn a photo of the image you want to create and she will develop the design on the wool base. She will also provide you with the wool needed to create the design and some embellishments to further customize your piece. You can select a landscape, floral design or other subject. Description:
Bring your imagination—creativity is personal and should be enjoyable. Rather than copying the instructor’s work, you will learn watercolor principles and techniques that you can apply in your own style. This is a fun, relaxed class.
Designed for beginning and intermediate artists, this relaxed, hands-on class explores the principles and techniques used to create convincing depth in watercolor landscapes.
A landscape composition will be provided as a starting point, or participants may bring their own subject. Topics include composition, perspective, color depth and density, object detail, and the use of highlights and shadows to create realistic landscapes.
Required materials
Watercolor palette with watercolor wells (paint brand, just like art, is a personal preference so bring what you use)
A water container or two for clean water
Various size watercolor brushes. You’ll need large brushes (hake, wash, mottler, and/or large round) and detail brushes, various small round, liner, spire, and shader
140 lb. cold press 12” x 16” or smaller watercolor paper block or paper mounted to board. Washes require stable paper.
Soft pencils (or ballpoint pen and graphite paper) for creating initial composition layout
An old towel or plastic tablecloth to cover your work area
Contact the instructor if you need instructions on mounting paper to a board.
