Call For Artists - Call For Artists - Call For Artists - Call For Artists

10/3/2017

After Dark @ All Saints’ Episcopal Church
January 17 & 18 and 22-25, 2018
6:30 – 8:30PM

For the third year, All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Concord is hosting a community event called After Dark @ All Saints’. AD@AS raises funds for community organizations such as Cooperative Christian Ministry, CVAN, and Community Free Clinic. The event is a collection of fun evening classes for the community.

We are inviting you to participate as a presenter for one evening at the third annual After Dark @ All Saints’. AD@AS offers people a chance to learn something new, brings together folks from the community, raises funds for community organizations, and gives you an opportunity to showcase your
gifts and promote your business.

What Presenters Need to Know

1. We are asking you to volunteer your time, but you will be reimbursed for your material expenses. As you plan your presentation, tell us what your materials will cost so we can include that in the advertising. The participant will pay for the class, plus materials, when they register for your class.

2. You should plan on 60 to 90 minutes for your session. With Q&A and follow up, it could run 2 hours. We will be happy to talk to you about the kinds of activities that are well-received and generate enthusiasm. You will pick the date you wish to present, and we will get you on our schedule.

3. As the planning progresses, we will check with you about your needs (room size, tables or not, projection equipment, etc.)

4. The money that you help to raise will go directly to help people in our community.

Thank you!

Art on Tap event brings adult crafts to The Galleries

12/28/2016

Art can be admired on a wall. It can be treasured from a shelf. But it can also be appreciated as it goes down the hatch.

That’s the thinking behind Art on Tap’s Craft Beer and Clay, an event that combines two artistic expressions – clay and craft beer – for enjoyment and admiration in The Galleries on Friday, January 13, at 7 pm.

Art on Tap is a Cabarrus Arts Council group for young adults over 21 with an interest in the arts. Members come from diverse backgrounds, and say the group has been a great way to mingle with others their own ages while learning more about the arts offered in their community.

Now in its third year, the group’s numbers have steadily grown, with members ranging from their twenties to their early forties.

Wondering if you’re on the cusp of consideration as a young adulthood?  Here’s a simple test to determine your answer: Do you find yourself talking to people about various ailments, like a stiff hip or an achy knee? Does your grocery store list regularly contain some sort of ointment? Do you remember when a payphone call cost a dime? Do you know what a payphone is? Can you match the name Frank Poncherello with the show his character appeared on?

If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to any of these, you may want to consider staying home for this one, lest risk feeling like a chaperone.

Activities for Craft Beer & Clay will kick off with tastings supplied by Cabarrus Brewing Company, Concord’s first full-scale brewery. Located in the old Gibson Mill, CBC crafts all of its own beer, giving most of them names with local ties, like Rocky River IPA, Reed’s Gold Ale and Cabarrus Cotton Blond Ale.

Those beers will most likely be available for tasting, along with at least one of their new beers, either Mocha Blonde Ale, made with S&D Coffee’s Dark Sky coffee beans, or their seasonal Winter Spice Ale.

Brew master Jason McKnight encourages people non-beer drinkers to give craft beer a try. They may be surprised by the complexity of the flavors. “People don’t think they like craft beer,” said McKnight. “But they haven’t been exposed to it.”

Hands-on activities during Craft Beer & Clay will be provided by Stephanie Gainer, President of the Cabarrus Arts Guild. Gainer will hand out newly made clay tiles for participants to design using stamps and glaze. After a few weeks in the kiln, they’ll be ready to take home.

Gainer said the similarities between creating art pieces with clay and crafting specialty beer makes them the perfect pairing for an Art on Tap activity.

“With both, you can manipulate something out of nothing, and you can get some surprising results.”

Annual membership costs $40 for individuals and $75 for couples.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS!!!

3/26/2016

The Hummingbird Festival at Reedy Creek Nature Center is coming up on August 20, 2016!!! We received wonderful feedback on the first Art Show last year so we are bringing it back again this year and we hope that you will participate!!!

The Art Show is free to enter and you can even offer your work for sale (with a percentage going to the Nature Center)!   You can enter up to 3 works of art (any medium) that reflect nature in the Piedmont.  For more details see the attached ART SHOW application.

We are also looking for artistic vendors. We would like to add to the experience of the visitors by increasing the number of art vendors at the festival.  If you don’t feel that you have enough work to support a vendor spot then you are allowed to find a friend to share a booth with. Art Guilds are strongly encouraged to participate. For more details see the attached ART VENDOR form.

Last year was a great success due to the wonderful artists! We hope that this year you can help make this year’s Hummingbird Festival Art Show and Sale a phenomenal success!!!

Please pass along this information to anyone that you feel might be interested!

Keep creating!!!

Spring Into The Arts Festival on Saturday, May 2nd 2015

In just three short months, we will have the opportunity, as a Guild, to participate in the annual Spring Into The Arts Festival on Saturday, May 2nd 2015.

This event is hosted by the Concord Downtown Development Corporation, funded by the Cabarrus Arts Council and private sponsors.

The Festival is geared toward the art enthusiasts, with 30 juried Fine Artists displaying their work on “Artist’s Row”.  This is a family friendly event with a special area of art activities and an entertainment stage for children.  There will also be food vendors and various street performers.

This event can provide exposure for the Guild Gallery and Gift Shop, not just to the general public, but to public specifically interested in fine art.  This is why we must all pitch in to support this effort.

As a reward for being jurors of the entries as well as hosting the two judges, the Guild is able to have space on the street, directly in front of our building FOR FREE. That’s right, FREE!!  All we need are volunteers to man the space for two or three hour shifts throughout the day.  You pick your time.  In exchange for this service, you will be able to display a few pieces of your art in our “free” space.  If your schedule has kept you for volunteering in the past, this would be an easy way for you to contribute to the success of your Guild.

We will need at least six people at two hours each or four people at three hours each to man our space on the street.  There should be two people at two hours each at the Guild front desk to collect money for our sales upstairs.  On Saturday morning at 9:00 am and again at 4:00pm, we will need three or four strong people to set up and take down the grey panels upstairs.

MAKE ONE; TAKE ONE:  In our classroom area, the public will be invited (for $5) to take an 8 x 10 canvas and paint their own masterpiece with acrylic paint. They can then take their art home or take a different one that has already been painted.  For this activity we will need the following talents from members.

Contribute some old brushes for the public to use.

Draw some simple “paint by number” examples we can trace onto some canvases.

Paint several canvases for the “take” part of the project.

And the most important, we need several members to stay at the tables and assist our budding artists.

As mentioned; in exchange for the donation of your time and talents, you will be able to hang or place your art for sale on the street in front of our building.  Only members who contribute their time will be allowed to place art in the Festival space.  How many pieces will depend on how many volunteers we have. We really need to know in advance how many of you plan to participate.

Special Note:  There is still time to apply for a spot on “Artists Row” on Cabarrus Ave.  You can display all of your own art under your own tent and participate in the judging.  You can contact the CDDC for information and applications.  Applications must be received by March 15th, and the cost is $110 for a 10 X 10 booth space.

Let us hear from you as soon as possible.  Thank you so much for your participation in this event.

The Events Committee,

Penny Oliver, Kristy Keistler, Barbara Pavey, Patty Minges and Nancy Sanderbeck
