Description:
Metal Clay is a unique art medium that allows anyone to create beautiful real silver jewelry without metalsmithing experience. Thanks to its malleable consistency, metal clay can be cut, textured, carved, molded, hammered and much more. The pieces you create make wonderful gifts!
But what is Metal Clay? It is refined silver particles mixed with an organic binder and water creating a clay like consistency. It can be torch fired and kiln fired. During the firing process, the water and binder burn out and the silver particles melt together (called sintering) leaving you with solid silver.
In this introduction to metal clay workshop I will provide guided, hands-on instruction. I keep my workshops small so you get the one on one attention you need to be successful.
During our time together, you will learn the following basic metal clay techniques: how to properly roll out your clay in an even thickness, cutting your clay using a template, texturing using texture mats or free hand, joining 2 pieces of clay, and refining your dry clay to remove any sharp or rough areas. You will observe the burnout and sintering process while I torch fire your piece. Yes, there will be a bit of fire that is safe and contained. Finally you will experience the magic of metal clay as you finish your piece by polishing and attaching a jump ring and chain to complete your own piece of solid Fine Silver wearable art.
No experience needed!

We are excited to offer this opportunity for you to work with an outstanding instructor weekly over a six-week period. This will allow you to take the learnings, use them between classes and then get additional feedback to move forward. In this workshop we will be designing paintings from the photographs you have chosen. We will not be copying them, but cropping, and rearranging elements to simplify and push our creativity. Let’s have fun, while taking some risks with color and design!
Please begin to gather CLEAR photos of subjects that please you, such as flowers, architecture, landscapes, trees, etc. It is a good idea to begin taking photos with your phones, or small cameras when you see an exciting pattern of light or shadows. We will not be doing a lot of drawing so don't worry about your skill level in perspective.
Linda likes to begin the class with students gathered around. She will take each student in turn and talk about a photo they have chosen as subject on which they wish to work. Linda will show various approaches to the photos which helps the entire class garner new ways to look at their own work.
Linda will do demos as called for based on subject matter. She recommends that you wait to do any drawing or stretching of paper until the class. This is an intermediate class. We will begin immediately on design and will not focus on brushes, paint or paper.
Linda began her art career painting commissioned oil portraits of Victorian Bed and Breakfasts in and around the Cape May, NJ area. These were very tight, realistic rendering requiring months to complete. Then she discovered the joys and terrors of watercolor with all of its rules and freedoms! As her experience grew, she became more aggressive with strong color transitions and unusual combinations while working in a representational manner.

Come out and create this beautiful heart book fold just in time for Valentine’s Day! Keep it for yourself or give it to a special someone on that special day. This is a beginner introductory class for learning the basics of Book Folding. No experience required!
You will learn how to center your project in your book before beginning to fold. After a little simple math, you will use a ruler and pencil to measure, mark and fold the pages of your book to create a beautiful heart as pictured,
I will provide the books, patterns, rulers and pencils that will be yours to take home after the class.
Bring your reading glasses if you need their help with reading the ruler! Also feel free to bring a snack if you need a little break during class.
After this class, you should be able to pick up any simple measure, mark and fold pattern to successfully create a work of art.
LeAnn has been creating folded book art since she discovered the process during the pandemic. Her journey started with this same heart and a pile of books on her dining room table that were to go to a fall festival that was canceled. After a few YouTube videos, some used and unloved books got a new lease on life. LeAnn has gone on to master much more detailed art work over the last few years. She is excited to share her love of the art with all of you.
