Welcome to the Cabarrus Art Guild
The mission of the Cabarrus Art Guild is to bring together artists and art enthusiasts from Cabarrus and surrounding counties for art education, to share information about art, and exposure to original works of art. We do this through our various programs, events, talks and classes. Our various programs are open to all, whether you are an amateur or professional, if you dabble or sell your work. We welcome you to join the Cabarrus Art Guild and share in our common interests and the wonder of creativity.

Julia Lawing
CAG Annual Fall Judged Art Show, 2023
Julia Lawing
Julia Lawing is a tenant artist at the ClearWater Arts Center and Studios in Concord, NC.
She earned a BA in Journalism at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (’90), which she supplemented with drawing and art history courses. While employed at Savannah College of Art & Design, and later, the Charlotte Observer, Julia pursued art in night classes on everything from stained glass to ceramics and pastels. As a young mother of four daughters, she taught elementary art and served as a docent at the Cabarrus Arts Council Galleries. Julia began oil painting in 2014 and, with that, knew she had found her calling.
Artist statement:
I paint because it engages my senses, my mind, my soul, and stirs a passion in me unlike anything else. My aim is visual poetry: simultaneously elusive and evocative, speaking life to the viewer’s soul. My art exploration parallels my faith: there’s no end, but the ongoing reward is a wellspring of revelation that helps me know myself, the world, and my God more fully.

These positive improvements to the Guild have happened, in large part, because of you. Your membership or support of the Guild has enabled us bring to you and our community a vast number of artistic opportunities. In fact, the most ever! As a non-profit organization, we are grateful for grant support from the NC Arts Council and the Cabarrus Art Council. The city of Concord has given us a home at Clearwater Arts Center and Studios to conduct many of our present activities, at a reduced cost or no cost. However, it is our membership dues and donations that ultimately allow the Guild to fulfill its mission.
This coming year, we intend to continue and expand all our wonderful programs and artistic opportunities including activities in the evening for those who work during the day. Open Art Tuesdays, surprise pop-up classes, plein air outings, monthly free demonstrations and admission to view our judged art exhibits are free throughout the year. We strive to encourage and further educate anyone; be they a beginner, an established professional or just a lover of creative expression. We are an incredibly friendly group and everyone in Cabarrus and surrounding counties are welcome.
Yearly membership begins officially on July 1st 2023 and runs through June 30, 2024. Benefits of membership include reduced fees for classes and art show participation, and an opportunity to exhibit a few pieces of your work on a rotation basis at the Depot at Gibson Mill. As members, you will be invited to members-only socials, have an opportunity to have your name on our online local artist’s directory, participate in some of our Art Walk type events, and receive foreknowledge of free pop-up classes and parties at Open Art Tuesdays.
