Upcoming Exhibition:
Robert Tynes at the Galleries, Historic Courthouse in Concord
Robert Tynes knows how to draw attention. A master of contemporary trompe l’oeil, Tynes blends traditional realism with abstract.
His “Homage to Marcel” painting seems to contain actual objects attached to a surface, but actually is a two-dimensional panel cutout.
Tynes currently is Professor of Art and Director of the S. Tucker Cooke Gallery at UNC-Asheville. His works are in numerous collections,
including a large scale commission located in the Charlotte Convention Center.
The Cabarrus Arts Council, in association with the Cabarrus Art Guild, proudly announces Robert Tynes as the juror for upcoming
Regional Competition scheduled for August 16 – October 7.
Bring your art to the attention of Robert Tynes. Submissions must be delivered to The Galleries, located in the Historic Cabarrus Courthouse in downtown
Concord, on July 30 and August 2.

IMPORTANT!
Meeting Time and Place Has Been Changed for Next Month! (June 2010)
The officers and core members of the guild met on Tuesday, March 23rd at 10:00am at Jennie Tomlin’s home/gallery in Harrisburg to discuss the upcoming year and the future of the Cabarrus Art Guild. Nine guild members including officers were in attendance. One of the greatest concerns is the lack of attendance at the meetings and seemingly lack of interest in the Guild.
The Cabarrus Art Guild is over 35 years old, and has had it's ups and downs through the years as many organizations have, but has survived thus far and continues, as it’s primary mission, to support the artists of Cabarrus County.
In an effort to create more interest in and support of the guild, those present at the meeting made some changes in the meeting times and dates to see if more people would be able to attend. Many folks have expressed concern about evening meetings, not just the older members but younger members who have families to take care of in the evenings and busy week day schedules.
We have decided to have the guild meetings on Sunday afternoons and we will be meeting at Jennie Tomlin’s home/studio in Harrisburg until another location is determined.
Jennie has also offered to host several open house exhibits for exhibiting guild members in her home gallery throughout the coming fiscal year. Board members and other’s have offered to pick up folks in their general vicinity who need transportation . There is parking but it would be helpful to all if some folks could car pool. If you need transportation, call Keith, Margaret, or Jutta.
The meeting time is 2pm on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Please come to this meeting and support the guild! We will be discussing the workshops, exhibit opportunities and new ideas for meeting programs at this meeting and your input is so important to the guild. We will have refreshments and Keith Pavey and Jennie Tomlin will have the program which is all about plein air painting.
Members of the “No Rules Plein Air Group” will be displaying their work and Keith will give pointers on how to pack for plein air and show the group his beautiful handmade painting box and his painting gear.
Please come to this really important meeting of the Cabarrus Art Guild and hear the plans we have made so far!
En Plain Air Group
Those of us who painted the day of the picnic had so much fun. The day was perfect – a slight breeze, low humidity, slightly overcast but still good shadows and less than 85 degrees! We did our set ups at different areas of the property and managed to end up with some impressive work! It was a particular inspiration for me as I haven’t done en plein air painting in a long time, so I decided that maybe it is time to begin an “en plein air” group in our area.
I was delighted to see immediately that there are others interested in doing this, so I am extending the invitation to come join us on Thursday, July 30th about 9:30am to Tomlin’s place in Harrisburg for an initial meeting and paint day. We will be painting from 9:30 until noon and everyone will bring lunch so we can have a lunch together and each person will have the opportunity to share their ideas of what the group should be. (I vote for simplicity – no officers, no dues, no by-laws but rather an informal group who can get together once a month to paint and share the experience when their schedule allows.)
If you can come on the 30th and are interested, you can let me know. If you forget to let me know, just grab your lunch and supplies and come anyway! Hope to see you on the 30th. We will meet in the gazebo unless the weather is bad. If the weather is really bad, check with me for a rain date. Anyone who likes to paint outside is welcome! (This is not a guild sponsored activity, but guild members as well as all artists in the area are invited.)
Please join us on the 30th!

Past News: Exhibition Opportunity
THe Old Courthouse Theater has invited us to hang an exhibit during the upcoming production of "The Boys Next Door." It is a great show. Phil Taylor is the director for this production and it should be well attended. The dates are:
- Thursday, April 29th - Sunday, May 2nd
- and Thursday, May 6th - Sunday, May 9th
The deadline for putting your name on the list is April 22.
Art must be delivered to Old Courthouse Theater on April 29th between 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM. It must be framed and wired for hanging unless you have some other appropriate method and prepare to hang your own things in a suitable way. The overall look of the show is important to the OCT and the Art Guild. The exhibit group must be satisfied with the appearance of any things hung in other than the usual way.
If you have 3-dimensional items such as pottery or jewelry, please let us know and we will try to accomodate them.
Each exhibitor is required to sit with the exhibit during at least one performance to insure the safety of the art, to answer any questions and to promote the Art Guild. We are making a renewed effort to attract new members and need to take this opportunity to talk with people and invite them to join us.
If there are panels not spoken for, there may be more than one side each. If you have an interest in having more than one side, let us know. We will contact you if you need to bring additional pictures.
