Series Dates: (Saturdays) 2/24, 3/31, 4/28, 5/26, 6/30 Time: 10:00am – 4pm Cost: 5 Lessons - $150* Single Lesson: $40 Supply Kit - $25 (Payable to instructor) From beginners to advanced artist, there’s something for everyone in this drawing workshop. It’s for anyone who wants to improve their drawing skills. Whatever your media preference; oil, acrylics, watercolor, pen and ink, pastels, or even crayons, the better your drawing, the better your results. The lessons are designed to build your drawing skills from basic to drawing animals and people. Each lesson focuses on a specific topic, you can take one, or all five. To build a solid base of drawing skills, we recommend all five. Lesson 1: The basics, using lines to create movement and style. Defining how you personally perceive art. Learning to express what you see, think and feel and get it onto paper. Lesson 2: Using gesture and contour drawing techniques to capture movement of the subject. Helps you move from “flat” to three-dimensional drawings. Trains your eye and hand to work together. Lesson 3: Creating a value scale, from 1 to 10. Defining how value is used to create dimension. Understanding how perspective and overlapping perspective is used in a composition. Lesson 4: Drawing a still life by first creating a contour drawing, then developing the composition by use of shading, perspective, value and scale. Lesson 5: Defines the importance of proportion and perspective in both the human body and animals. Learning to find the basic shapes, alignment of features to others, and the proportions of the parts to the whole. O’Lynda will first show you how to use these techniques, then give you time to practice. One-on-one attention and advice is yours from an instructor with many years of drawing experience. |

Time: 10 AM – 3:00 PM Cost: $70 In this class you’ll learn how to create custom batik fabric for a quilt, wall hanging, or garment. The batik process generates complex, stitch-able designs with wax resist and color layering on fabric. Wax is applied to fabric with a stamp called a tjap (pronounced “chop”). Several choices of images are offered: turtle (see left), irises, dragonfly, or butterfly. Colors are painted in layers alternating with wax. An optional crackling technique produces a marbled effect, it’s seen as navy blue background lines in the turtle design above. Finally, the piece is ironed to remove the wax and set the paint colors. Date: November 7, 8 and 9
Time: 10 AM – 4:00 PM Cost: $125 for CAG Members $150 for non-members Putting those first brushstrokes on a blank piece of paper is intimidating for many artists. This workshop helps students get that first stage over quickly — in a fun and freeing way. During our three days together, we’ll produce two paintings, a half sheet or larger. The first painting is based on a saturated wet into-wet technique, with everyone working on one subject - A Koi Pond. Watercolors, mixed into muffin tins or small cups, are applied in a haphazard way over the entire paper. Very little drawing is needed! Gradually, the koi are “lifted” out of the background using a large, damp brush. The technique is mesmerizing and the damp edges formed by the brush make the koi look as though they are in motion. It is a thoughtful, relaxing process and the results are always surprising. The second painting is also on a half to full size sheet. Students may have a particular subject in mind, others may wait-and-see…either way works. We will literally pour select colors onto the paper, covering the entire sheet. When dry, students will draw their subject, then begin painting. Masking fluid and additional pours can be incorporated, if desired. The end result of both methods is fascinating to view and difficult to achieve any other way! Dates:
